Week 2 EOC: Erin Brockovich

The movie Erin Brockovich brings up some great legal issues all while making it entertaining. That's not the point of this blog post. Don't expect a movie review here, however you will read how Brockovich turned around a case that was left for no one into something.
Here she was a person with no legal background teaching herself the ways of this court case against Pacific Gas and Electric (pg&e). This was a big company that was poisoning the nearby ground water with Chromium-6. They tried to pass it off as something that was okay. Clearly it was not. Brockovich uncovered all that was going wrong with pg&e and got the court to award $333 million dollars which was split with 40 percent going to the lawyers, which came out to more than $133 million. Then Erin Brockovich was given a $2 million dollar bonus by attorney Ed Masry. That means there was $196 million dollars left over. This was then divided between the 600 victims, which means that each victim or family got about $300,000. In comparions this seems like chump change to what the attorney's got. Kind of sad, but they did do the work after all.
